BCN Port Innovation Foundation
This is the main vehicle through which the project is managed. It is a private Foundation dedicated to promoting innovation and sustainability in the Port and logistics field. It promotes projects that improve the competitiveness of the Port of Barcelona and its adaptation to new global challenges, such as digitization and mobility, logistics and the environment.
Nova Bocana Barcelona
He is responsible for the management of the area where the W Barcelona hotel is located, the first area developed within the modern and multifunctional space of the Nova Bocana from the Port of Barcelona. This area not only acts as an entrance to the Port, but also hosts key infrastructures for tourism and economic activity. The concessionaire Nova Bocana Barcelona, committed to its values of corporate responsibility, finances and promotes the project’s activities.
Port Vell Management
Society within the Port Authority of Barcelona responsible for the area of the historic Port of Barcelona, which has evolved over the years from a traditional commercial port to become a vibrant and cultural area of the city.
Today, the Port Vell is a meeting place for both Barcelona residents and tourists, with attractions and points of interest ranging from the L’Aquàrium de Barcelona, the Maremagnum and the Museum of the History of Catalonia to the Nova Bocana. It offers iconic spaces that facilitate both the development and dissemination of the project, connecting it with citizens and visitors. And from its Management, initiatives such as BCN Sotamar are promoted and supported.
L'Aquàrium de Barcelona
One of the most important marine centers in the world dedicated to the Mediterranean. In operation since 1995, it has been completely remodeled and updated to provide better service and a wider range of activities to the more than 1.5 million visitors who come every year.
L’Aquàrium de Barcelona serves as a powerful speaker for environmental awareness and education.
In addition to its educational and recreational functions, it actively collaborates in scientific research and marine ecosystem conservation projects, providing facilities for research, outreach and education within the BCN Sotamar project.

Underwater Gardens International
Company formed by a multidisciplinary network of professionals and experts with wide international recognition that integrates both a scientific and a business vision. Pioneer in the creation of “innovative solutions” that make marine regeneration viable based on scientific criteria to adapt to and mitigate climate change in the ocean, while promoting local socio-economic growth.
Underwater Gardens International brings its expertise in the design and installation of underwater gardens and other marine infrastructure.
It supplies the technologies and materials needed to create artificial biotopes, which not only provide new habitats for marine life, but also contribute to improving water quality and ecosystem stability.
Commitment to biodiversity
BCN Sotamar, promoted by the BCN Port Innovation Foundation, won the Local Sustainability Insignia Project of the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup and World Sailing.
The Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona has left a deep mark on the city’s sports history and sustainability. Beyond the competition, it has funded the BCN Sotamar project, which is already working on the restoration of the city’s seabed, with a view to expanding these actions to other regions or countries. It also promotes citizen engagement through volunteering and environmental education activities.
Collaborative management
The governance
The BCN Sotamar project is composed of an organizational structure designed to guarantee efficient, transparent and collaborative management, integrating the expertise of various institutions and professionals with a common goal: the regeneration and preservation of Barcelona’s marine ecosystems.
This governance model is composed of three committees: the Executive Committee, the Technical Committee and the Scientific Committee. Each of these committees has specific and complementary functions, ensuring broad and multidisciplinary coverage of all aspects of the project.
Executive committee
It is the governing body responsible for the general supervision, strategy and direction of BCN Sotamar. This committee is made up of representatives who provide specialized knowledge in port innovation, maritime management and nautical development.
Technical committee
They are in charge of the operational and logistical aspects of the project, ensuring that each initiative is deployed effectively and in accordance with technical and environmental standards. It is led by entities with extensive experience in the management of marine and nautical infrastructures.
Scientific committee
They provide the necessary scientific rigor to ensure that all project actions have a positive and measurable impact on marine biodiversity. It is led by experts in marine science, biology, ecology and sustainability, ensuring that the project is based on the best available scientific practices.
